What is the 18|37FF?

The 18|37FF is a filmmaking event and film showcase created by the Knox College Film Club. In the spirit of similar events, such as the 48 Hour Film Project, the Event looks to gather teams of all manner to make films that only those people could make. And inspired by the founding year that Knox College was created, 1837, teams will have 18 hours and 37 minutes to make their short films.

How much does the 18|37FF cost to enter?

Entry is free, and currently reserved only for Knox College students, faculty, and staff. But if the Event is successful, it could open up to the community and beyond in the future.

What are the films about?

They will be about whatever the teams and filmmakers want them to be. Each team is given 2 required elements (a line of dialogue and a prop) but other than that the film can be whatever the Team wants.

Who sees the films?

After the films are submitted there will be a filmmaker showcase, where all of the submitted films will be screened, for all the teams, other students, and faculty and staff, to watch. This event is ultimately open for anyone to attend, but will only really be promoted on the Knox College campus.
After the Event is over, the films will be hosted on the official 18|37FF webpage, and that selection will hopefully grow as the event is held in later years.

Who are the filmmakers?

Anyone and everyone associated with Knox College. From groups of individual students to Student Organizations, and possibly even teams of departmental faculty and staff. Whether that’s the Computer Science department, or the Custodial or Kitchen staff.

Is there a limit to the number of people on a team?

There isn’t an official limit. But ideally teams would be of about 4-10 people. This all factors into how large your crew is, how grand your script turns out to be, and how many people you can get together in this small amount of time.
That said, if you’re just a team of 1 or 2, that would work too.

Can you be on more than one team?

Sure. There’s just not a lot of time to be coordinating between different movies… But you’re definitely allowed!

Is this a contest and will there be awards?

Yes and yes. Though the main outcome of this event is to have fun, there will be awards for films under a variety of categories. The biggest prize though, will be the bragging rights for participating in this awesome event.
